Dear Birders,

Summertime Birding

This summer was filled with exciting birding adventures on the water. We sailed three expeditions aboard the classic sailboat Chicane and led over fifteen trips aboard the vintage motorboat Tartan. Along the way, we partnered with Friends of the Bay for a collaborative expedition, and donated charters in support of the Waterfront Center, the American Lung Association, and our local Boys & Girls Club. We also partnered with Brooklyn Boatworks for a field trip this season!

Each trip also contributed to citizen science. All the data our participants collected has been uploaded to eBird, the world's largest biodiversity related citizen science initiative.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this season, and stay tuned—our 2026 birding dates will be released in January!

We directed six camp sessions at a Summer Camp Nature Center on the South Shore of Long Island, introducing children ages 4–10 to the joys of birding. Campers learned how to observe birds in their natural habitats and explored adaptations by examining bioartifacts for hands-on learning. These sessions helped foster curiosity, connection to nature, and a lifelong appreciation for birds and the environment.

If you know a young naturalist—or an organization—that would like to get involved in future programs, we’d love to hear from you!
